Montserrat Sardà

I hold a degree in Translation and Interpretation from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and a law degree from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. After gaining professional experience in Germany, I completed a master’s degree in Conference Interpreting at Universidad de La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain), a European Commission-endorsed university that belongs to the European Masters in Conference Interpreting (EMCI) Consortium. I have been part of the examining board for the final and midterm exams of this master’s program. Spending time in Canada, Germany, and Cyprus has allowed me to hone my professional skills. From 2013 to 2015, I taught German and Spanish legal translation classes at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas. Since 2022, I have been a full member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC). I currently work as a freelance conference interpreter and translator, with English, German, and French as foreign languages, and Spanish and Catalan as native languages. I love discovering new corners of our beautiful and diverse planet, enjoying the sea and the mountains, and getting caught up in a good book. My true passion, however, is building bridges between cultures and, of course, continuing to learn languages.

“I hold a degree in Translation and Interpretation from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcleona, Spain). After finishing my degree, I went on to pursue master studies in Germany. Little after, after receiving a Fulbright grant, I moved to the United States, where I completed a master’s degree in Conference Interpreting and Translation at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) in California (USA).

I lived and worked for some time in New York, where I served as a medical interpreter and interned at the United Nations headquarters. Later on, I moved to Los Angeles, where I worked as a copyeditor and project manager for a local company. In 2019, I became certified by the American Translators Association (ATA) as an English-to-Spanish translator, and since 2024, I have been a full member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC). My native languages are Spanish and Catalan, and I work in those languages to and from English.

I currently work as a full-time freelance conference interpreter, translator, and copyeditor. I never say no to traveling the world to visit new places and reconnect with old friends. I firmly believe that—no matter how cliché it sounds—through dialogue comes understanding, and perhaps that’s why I’m still passionate about this profession after so many years.”
