Frequently asked questions

If you still have questions about what our services include or which option best suits your needs, we answer some of the most commonly asked questions below.

Translation and interpretation are two different types of services. An interpreter translates orally and in real time, while a translator does so in writing once they receive the text in its original language.

Language interpretation requires strong concentration abilities. Interpreters have to not only pay attention to the speaker’s words but also process non-verbal information, find the most accurate terms, and ensure no information falls through the cracks. Sounds tiring, right?

To avoid and make sure fatigue does not affect the quality of the speech, interpreters work in 20 to 30 minute shifts. We also help each other with terminology and make sure the speech always flows smoothly. A good team is synonymous with success.

Simultaneous interpretation is not limited to the strict time when the service is provided. It requires a great deal of preparation to understand the topic to be discussed, the participants, potential expressions and terms, cultural references, etc. All of this entails extra hours beyond the work we perform in the booth on the day of the event.

Professional interpreters routinely work with sensitive and confidential material. Our code of ethics binds us to uphold the strictest duty of confidentiality regarding the information we handle.

However, if you prefer, we can sign a non-disclosure agreement so that you have written proof of our commitment. It is a common practice in the industry. At Interidea, we take your work and your interests very seriously.

Professional interpreters need to prepare beforehand to be able to speak at participants’ level, whatever the topic. Accordingly, it is highly recommended and very necessary to provide the team of interpreters with all potential materials: PowerPoint presentations, web information, documents that will be discussed or that help to provide context, videos, etc.

The sooner you provide us with this information, the sooner we can start preparing—and the more guarantees of success you will have.

Interidea is a 100% human team. Artificial intelligence is not yet capable of successfully mastering the complex process involved in conference interpretation. In addition, it cannot understand non-verbal information, which accounts for 80% of communication, nor does it take into account cultural or non-linguistic references. The human touch makes communication human!

As interpreters, we can use AI-based tools to help us prepare glossaries, understand complex concepts, or simplify terminology extraction. However, our interpretation is person to person. No more and no less.

At Interidea, we only work with interpreters who have demonstrated they have sufficient experience and specific training to guarantee high-quality results. We are also members of AIIC, the International Association of Conference Interpreters, an organization that fights for high-quality interpretation in dignified and professional conditions. A quality team is synonymous with success.

Transmitting ideas from one language into another is much more than speaking two languages: It requires solid training, an understanding of the specific features of the communication process, and mental and technical speed. After all, we listen, process, decipher, and translate—nearly all at once. What would happen if you go blank in the middle of a meeting or conference? Or if you don’t understand the speaker? Or if you can’t keep up with the pace and speed? Interpreting is a demanding job, and you have to be prepared for it.
